5 Life Habits For Beautiful, Healthy Skin
We all want flawless, beautiful skin. And here’s some good news – getting that perfect skin might be much easier than we thought! Our lifestyle habits have a big impact on our health, wellbeing and by extension – our looks. Tweaking some of them can give you great results in practically no time.
Here are 5 life habits you should incorporate into your daily routine to get that beautiful, healthy skin as quickly as possible:
1. Up Your Water Intake
Drinking plenty of water can help depuff your eyes, make your skin plumper and suppler, give you a brighter, well-rested look and add healthy, youthful glow to your skin. However, trying to drink more water every day can be a bit of a challenge.
To make things fun, you can infuse your water with fruits, veggies and herbs, sneak in some extra water by adding ice to your juices or eating food with high water content. Try rewarding yourself every time you reach your daily goal or install an app that can nudge you throughout the day to drink more water.
And, of course, keep a bottle of water with you at all times – it is much easier to sip a bit more often than to gulp down 2 cups at once.
2. Get 8 Hours of Sleep
Not getting enough good night sleep worsens the inflammatory processes and it is especially important if you suffer from acne or eczema. Insufficient sleep also can lead to the break down in skin collagen, increases skin dehydration and speed up the aging processes.
To help yourself get that much needed eight hours of sleep, try to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day, skip big meals and caffeine a few hours before going to bed and use those few hours to truly relax.
There are also plenty of apps out there that can help you track your daily activities and how they affect your sleep (PrimeNap), track your sleeping cycle (Sleep Cycle) or lull you to sleep with relaxing sounds (Relax Melodies).
3. Change Your Pillowcase Regularly
You’re washing your face regularly, but those acne and blackheads keep coming back? The problem might be the things your skin comes in contact with a lot, such as your pillowcase. Pillowcases collect dirt, bacteria and sweat, hair products and your pet’s fur – all those things can be responsible for your skin problems.
Most dermatologists agree that you should change your pillowcase once a week, and if you have acne - once every other night.
4. Reduce Stress
Stress has many negative effects to the skin, such as drying out the skin or triggering acne, eczema or psoriasis flare-ups. Regular exercise, aromatherapy, laughter, yoga, spending time with your loved ones or enjoying your favorite hobby can all help you to keep your stress levels under control.
Also, when you feel stressed out, you can try out a simple breathing technique – slowly breathe in as you count to 5, hold for 2 seconds, and then slowly breathe out as you count to 5. Repeat until you start to feel relaxed.
5. Eat Food Rich in Omega-3s and Antioxidants
Eating quality, diverse food is essential, but two types of nutrients that are especially important for beautiful skin are antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids. Antioxidants fight against free radicals and delay aging signs, while omega-3 fatty acids moisturize the skin from the inside.
You can find antioxidants in blueberries, strawberries, kale, spinach, beetroot, artichokes, pecans and dark chocolate. Food rich in omega-3s includes fatty fish (mackerel, salmon, sardines, herring), flax seeds, chia seeds, walnuts and soybeans.
Following these 5 tips can give you that healthy skin and youthful glow you've desire. Plus, they don’t only help your skin, but your health and wellbeing. An easy and natural way to look great and feel even better.
